Actress Soha Ali Khan feels that comedy is a tough genre and it makes people look weird on screen.
The 35-year-old actress, who is all set to showcase her comic skill in upcoming film 'Mr Joe B Carvalho', says taking up the project was a conscious decision as she wanted to break free from her serious image.
"Comedy requires certain expressions which don't make you look beautiful or elegant onscreen but I don't mind making fun of myself. What I love about this movie is that for the first time I was given an opportunity to break the image of doing certain roles," Soha told PTI.
'Mr Joe B Carvalho', directed by Samir Tewari, is slated to hit theatres on January 3, 2014. The film also stars Arshad Warsi opposite Soha, who plays the role of a police officer named Shantipriya in the film. She is assisting detective Carvahlo.
Soha feels comedy cannot be learnt.
"Comic timing is very difficult to learn. Either you have it or you don't. But I don't think that you can learn comedy. I don't think that it is something that can be taught," she said.
In one of the scenes for the movie, Soha has slipped into a blue bikini.
"The bikini was the need of the script and the director was more shy than me. This movie is a very clean family entertainer. So we did not have to do anything needless to titillate the audience," she said.
"It is absolutely a woman's right to choose what to wear and what not to. As a professional when you are performing a character on screen it is not open for any personal judgement," she added.
